Nevada City, Calif. – Dennis Peron, the father of Prop 215, will guest on the popular radio program, the Cannabis Crusades, this Friday from 12:00 2:00pm on KVMR, 89.5fm. He will be discussing his strong opposition to Prop 64, a ballot measure that will decide whether adults 21 years or older will have access to marijuana for purely recreational purposes. Peron started Prop 215 when he became frustrated with the governments refusal to recognize cannabis as a medical necessity for AIDS (and other critically ill) patients as a legacy to his partner, Jonathan West, who died from the disease.
California was the first state that attempted to legalize recreational cannabis in 2010 when Oakersterdam founder Richard Lee initiated Prop 19. Peron has raised the ire of the pro-cannabis hierarchy by opposing Prop 64, a position he grew accustomed to when he opposed the failed legalization effort six years earlier.
Since Californias failed attempt to legalize recreational use, Colorado, Washington, Oregon, Alaska and Washington, D.C. have legalized cannabis for adults over 21. Prop 64 has divided the cannabis community and has caused friends and some family members to stop speaking to each other. Some believe that legalization preempts all other concerns while many patients fear the initiative will merge the medical into the recreational program as Washington state did recently.
Jonathan Collier will also make an appearance to discuss the official launch of the Nevada County Cannabis Alliance, the newly formed merger of the Cal Growers Association and the No on W committee.
Forrest Hurd will round out the program with details of the Caladrious Foundation, a new non-profit organization he formed to help families access medical cannabis for their children who suffer from diseases that Western medicine cannot address like his son Silas.
This episode marks the four year anniversary of the poplar radio program that features cutting edge interviews with industry leaders. Broadcasters at KVMR have awarded the Cannabis Crusades the Best Public Affairs Programming award two out of the last three years.
