Denver – Efforts to make the packaging of marijuana products less appealing to children will take effect Oct. 1.
The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment and the states Department of Revenue revealed a new universal symbol Monday.
The diamond-shaped symbol that has the words THC under a red exclamation point must be featured on the front of all new medical and retail marijuana packaging beginning Oct. 1.
The state is requiring the packaging to also include the following statement directly below the symbol: Contains Marijuana. Keep out of the reach of children.
Other marijuana packaging rules that will go into effect Oct. 1 includes banning the word candy from any marijuana product, and labels with a potency statement and a contaminant testing statement.
The state began pushing for tougher restrictions and lower doses after several reported incidents. Colorado also saw a spike in the number of kids treated for accidentally eating pot.
