Machesney Park – Village leaders in Machesney Park are taking steps to change local laws for people caught with marijuana to conform with new state rules.
In July, Governor Bruce Rauner signed a law reducing the punishment for having 10 grams of marijuana or less. Those caught with less then 10 grams of marijuana will now face a fine.
Machesney Park is now updating its laws to reflect state law changes.
Village trustees will vote on whether to approve changes at an upcoming meeting.
