Washington – After blazing the trail last year by putting on the first-ever cannabis competition at a state fair, the D.C. State Fair will hold its second-annual Best Bud Contest Sunday in Northeast D.C.
Recreational cannabis growers who are D.C. residents age 21 and older were invited to enter the contest, which was capped at 100 entrants. Five finalists will be judged on the fairs main stage Sunday, the D.C. State Fair website said.
Judging criteria include sight, smell, touch, cure and trim, the website said. Points also will be deducted for evidence of pests. Because D.C. law prohibits cannabis consumption at public events, judges will not be consuming the contest entries.
The Best Bud Contest is held to honor the legalization of marijuana in D.C., according to the website.
The D.C. State Fair will be held Sunday at NoMa Junction at Storey Park (1200 First St. Northeast). Best Bud contest winners will be announced between 4:15 and 5 p.m.
The fair will also feature kids activities, educational talks, a pet parade and musical performances.
