If you blinked when you read that title, you aren’t alone. In 2015, the US government added a page on their official cancer advice website about the use of cannabis and cannabinoids.

From the article:

“The National Cancer Institute, part of the US Department of Health, now advises that ‘cannabinoids may be useful in treating the side effects of cancer and cancer treatment’ by smoking, eating it in baked products, drinking herbal teas or even spraying it under the tongue.”

And very surprisingly, they list other uses as well, including anti-inflammatory activity, blocking cell growth, preventing the growth of blood vessels that supply tumours, antiviral activity, and relieving muscle spasms caused by multiple sclerosis.

They even went as far as to explain that cells in mice died when exposed to cannabis (so glad they are finally willing to admit it). Given the amount of studies showing this fact, it’s nice that the government is finally getting on board. People deserve to know the truth. To date, there are two FDA approved medications for cancer patients available in the US which contain cannabinoids.
