The Marijuana Party will not be listed near the Republican, Democrat or Libertarian Parties on the Nebraska ballot this November.
Organizers failed to collect the necessary 5,395 valid signatures – at least 1 percent of the total votes cast for governor in the 2014 general election – to put the party on the ballot.
Volunteers had turned in about 9,000 petition signatures, but only 4,353 were found to be valid, according to a press release from Secretary of State John Gale.
The signatures also did not reach the 1 percent threshold in any of Nebraskas three congressional districts.
Mark Elworth Jr. of Omaha has been leading the recognition effort and is the partys vice presidential candidate.
